Description
Color-Key™III negative overlay proofing films custom colors are factory-coated with ink pigment colors.
Custom colors can be used in conjunction with the Color-Key™III process colors yellow, magenta, cyan, black (YMCK) or as stand-alone spot colors.
Production of a Color-Key™ Proof
Refer to the Color-Key™III negative overlay proofing films SWOP Product Information sheet (77-9804-6731-8) for detailed information.
Production of a Color-Key™ III proof involves three steps for each color: expose, process, mount in register.
Expose
It is necessary to determine proper exposure values for each color layer. Note the following exposure values recommended for custom colors. Disregard any ghost steps.
Recommended exposure:
Microline Resolution (while holding dot resolution at 5%-95%)
- 3M™ Matchprint™ Color Element
6 8 microlines
- UGRA Scale
8 10 microlines
Exposure Tips
- Use a properly maintained vacuum exposure frame.
- Use a combination bulb that has a strong spectral output between 350 to 380 nanometers. Maintain and replace bulbs according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
- To maintain consistent exposure, place the exposure control targets in the same place on the proof for all exposures.
Process
Process Color-Key™III custom colors as you do Color-Key™III process colors (YMCK) with the exception of opaque white and lime green.
Special Processing
- OPAQUE WHITE film and LIME GREEN film require TWO PASSES through the processor.
- In addition, after processing 30 ft2 of OPAQUE WHITE material (approximately five 25" x 38" proofs), clean all processor rollers, brushes, guides and sump (if applicable). Refer to the processor Operator's Guide for cleaning instructions.
Hand Processing
- Color sheets 20 inches by 24 inches (508mm by 610mm) or smaller can be hand processed using Color Proofing III - Premixed Hand Developer.
- For information regarding hand processing, call the Imation CARE Center at 1-800-328-1303.
Before operating a processor, consult the Operator's Guide for correct operating procedures and important safety information.
Before handling or using any chemical product, be sure to read the Material Safety Data Sheet for health hazard data, precautionary information and suggested first aid.
Mount In Register
- Mount the exposed and processed color layers, in register, on apaper base. For best color rendition, mount and register the color layers on Navajo Ultrawhite™ base.
- If custom colors are used as a fifth or sixth color on a four-color process proof, the custom color(s) can be mounted either first (before the YMCK layers) or last (after the YMCK layers) dependent on their opacity or transparent qualities.
